M.A.C. Just Released a Brand-New, Extensive Brow Collection and it couldn’t be more welcome! You don’t need me to tell you the Brows are back in town! Not the over-plucked then pencilled/tattooed brows of 90’s era Gwen Stefani or Pamela Anderson… but Big, Brazen, Bold, or even Bushy brows are making headlines.
Now, brows are natural and dramatic, statement-making and face-framing. That’s great news for the Cara’s and Kim’s of the world, blessed with healthy and plentiful brow hairs, but not so much for me I’ve barely plucked or waxed mine *ever* but they still lack any kind of definition or drama.
Thin brows are aging, so I thought this meant mine were better left unattended, with occasional penciling, but as I’m learning, with a little TLC and attention, I can take my brows to wow.
It’s not MAC’s first time doing brows, of course, but it is the first full collection. [left]Damone Roberts, brow expert and beauty therapist, worked with MAC to create the eight new products, including brushes, powder duos and three types of pencils, in an incredible variety of colours. Brows Are It collection sees the return of Brow Duo, a set of two powders to add contrast when you fill in your brows.
My favourite though, is a brand-new product called the Big Brow Pencil. It’s a thick crayon that lets you quickly fill in your brows with broad strokes. It’s perfect for a full natural brow, and is the easiest to apply.
“It creates an unstructured, full brow so they look a little more volumized and fuller, but still natural,” explained Damon Roberts.
Using the chubby brow pencil, MAC make-up artist Kiekie Stanners taught us to apply through the brow backwards, lifting up each hair and coating them in colour (adding thickness and texture).
From there, smooth the messed up brows back into shape with a brow brush. I’m using Bobbi Brown’s Dual-Ended Brow Definer/Groomer Brush to comb through my brows.
Next, using the 266 small angled brush as part of this collection, I applied Long-Wear Brow Gel.
Using the gel and the very thin brush, you can actually draw on individual brow-hairs, easily filling gaps in the brow. I’m using Dirty Blonde to create a feathered brow. Finally, I added the brow set, stroking brows into shape.
All products are available in New Zealand on May 2, 2016 at all authorised M∙A∙C locations.
