With his international job and both of our lives often getting in the way of our being able to spend time together, my fiance Blair and I have to make it a priority to spend time with each other when he’s actually in New Zealand. We live together of course, in a flat with 3 others (and two dogs) who we really like, but I’ve barely seen him since Bali, so when given an opportunity to spend a whole weekend together, I really wanted to make sure we had some quality time.
This past weekend we decided to head out of the city, escaping to a beautiful little retreat just 30 minutes out of Auckland in Waimauku (past Kumeu towards Muriwai). It’s called Rosebud Cottage and it’s as cute as it sounds.
We arrived after-dark but Jenny had left our cottage warm, and a bottle of Champagne chilled, so we were right at home (and super-relaxed!). It was so nice to be amidst fields of cattle and tucked away in a valley surrounded only by nature – no distractions of traffic, TV, flatmates and internet (I even took the night off blogging!).
In the morning I explored the cottage and surrounds and ran a bath at sunrise, I can’t imagine a more beautiful spot to relax in on a Saturday morning.
Refreshed, I even worked out the coffee machine and prepared the breakfast Jenny had left out for us (setting off the smoke alarm briefly to wake up Blair who’d cunningly stayed in bed while I fluffed around). And on we lounged… between the four poster bed, the sun-lit living area, outdoor spa and seating overlooking the farm, and on the deck surrounded by green fields and nature.
If I was getting married in Kumeu (and there are SO many beautiful wineries around here), I’d definitely spend my wedding night and the next few nights as a newlywed in this special spot.
It was such a dream out there, I could’ve stayed a week, forgetting about work and life and wedding planning and making friends with cows and dogs and hens!
