I’ve always been a night owl, an insomniac, restless and unable to sleep or relax, wide awake til the wee hours, winding down every night by reading the internet from cover to cover, rather than settling in with a good book.
This year, I’m going to try and turn that around, relaxing earlier, sleeping better, putting down phone and picking up a paperback.
So how’s a multi-tasking “night-worker” to do that?
Baby steps – starting with a multi-tasking night-time routine. This week, post Christmas-indulgence, New Year’s celebrations and many a late night, my eye-bags are looking far from fabulous. Because the eye area skin is 40% thinner than the rest of the face, they’re the first place to show signs of fatigue, stress and aging as a result of long days, lack of sleep, environmental exposure, even pollution.
I’m taking the old adage of ‘Beauty Sleep’ to a whole new level….
I re-defined night routine and repaired my tired eyes at the same time with Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery Eye Mask. That’s quite a mouthful, which is fitting as its benefits are more than a mouthful too!
Night Mode activated – Advanced Night Repair on.
Estée Lauder says:

Review: Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery Eye Mask
First impressions – I’m intrigued by the ‘golden ticket’ like packaging – each eye mask set comes in a single-dose gold package with sealed chambers – I ‘pop’ the liquid chamber into the chamber enclosing the pads, before tearing open the gold foil packet – I can’t wait to feel the promised silkiness of the serum.
If there’s one thing I’m paranoid about, it’s the unavoidable reality of ageing around the eyes – once creased and wrinkled, it’s a more difficult area to refine, so in my late (gasp) twenties, I need to take as much preventative action as possible. I’m hoping the Concentrated Recovery Eye Mask will help with that. Last Year Estée Lauder launched Advanced Night Repair PowerFoil Sheet Mask, which I haven’t tried, but which has received rave reviews world-wide (including by Ms Beckham).
Touch and feel – the serum is not unlike the feeling of the original (cult) Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair, which I’ve used on and off over the years. It’s not very fragrance-y, quite a neutral scent.
Applying the Eye Mask to my dull, dehydrated skin is a really good, instantly cooling, relaxing feeling. The eye mask applied easily to my under-eye area, and is quite viscose and adhered well. There’s a lot of excess serum – I patted it into the pads as much as possible, and applied the remainder above my eyes. I could have saved the remainder for another day, but for review purposes, wanted to use the whole product.
I left it on for ten-fifteen minutes and once I removed it, patted in the excess serum.
Within those minutes, my eyes are rested and my skin feels instantly more radiant. The next day, waking up I felt like my skin had a real plumpness, more voluminous, and still really hydrated – which I am not used to waking up to. Estee Lauder’s press release claims that the eye mask delivers twenty times more Advanced Night Repair’s proven soothing, hydrating and repair ingredients to the delicate eye area, and I agree that the moisture surge is immediately evident.
I can immediately see value in using this product, especially after the party season, or weekly in the lead up to your wedding (and on the night before, too – grab a pack for your bridesmaids and have a a slumber party).
Personally, I’m going to use it every time I have a long haul flight. For $23 per mask, it’s a valuable investment to make, in exchange for waking up with hydration like this. It’s a great alternative to taking expensive bottles of product away with you overseas, and a great gift to post to a newly engaged friend too!
Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery Eye Mask is available at Estée Lauder counters nationwide, and online at smithandcaugheys.co.nz and farmers.co.nz from today (16th January 2017). I was provided a sample for review, and as always, opinions are all my own.
